Pune 24th August 2023: In a bid to curb unauthorized tree felling incidents that have been reported in the last few days the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced to form four dedicated squads. This step aims to clamp down on rampant tree cutting.

The initiative follows a recent incident where eight trees were felled by a private company in the Bhosari MIDC area without proper authorization. Moreover, there had been previous instances of tree cutting on the pathway leading to the Sant Tukaram Nagar Metro Station, despite having permission only for the removal of branches obstructing the path.

Instances of large-scale tree cutting for construction, advertisements, or other purposes have been occurring in various parts of the city. Even trees under the jurisdiction of the municipal corporation have fallen prey to unauthorized felling. To prevent such incidents, the Garden Department will form four dedicated squads. These teams will supervise areas in their jurisdiction and wherever they find instances of unauthorized tree cutting, legal actions will be taken by registering cases against the offenders.
