Pune: PCMC’s Tax Collection Department Takes Action Against 3,309 Properties; Rs 47 Crore Recovered
Pimpri, 11th February 2023: The Taxation and Tax Collection Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has confiscated 3,309 properties that are not paying property tax despite repeated notices. Through this, the department has recovered as much as Rs 46.99 crore in arrears of tax.
1 lakh 186 property holders in PCMC have tax outstanding of Rs 305 crore 69 lakhs 75 thousand. Unauthorized construction is the main reason behind its non-recovery. Unauthorized additions have been made adjacent to the original property. PCMC has imposed a penal tax on incremental constructions leaving aside the basic property. Due to this, the tendency of citizens to default on basic taxes and penalties is increasing.
As of today, there are 97,777 unauthorized constructions in the city. This includes properties from residential, non-residential, companies, shopping centres, malls, etc. In the meantime, as the state government has announced a blanket waiver of penalty tax, the collection system of the municipality is once again facing difficulties.
Property holders are refusing to pay the original tax while the process of adjustment is underway as per the new penal tax rules. A list of such property holders has been prepared. A total of 8,836 properties have been found under the 17 divisional Tax Collection Departments of the municipality. They have been issued notices.
However, due to non-payment of tax by these property holders, the process of confiscation was carried out and some of the property holders paid the tax. Apart from such a number, it was ordered to implement confiscation on the remaining 5,999 properties. Even after that, as some people paid taxes, confiscation action was taken on the remaining 3,309 properties. Due to that, the PCMC collected a tax of Rs 46,99,03,585.
