Pune: PIC to Host 8th Dileep Padgaonkar Memorial Lecture by Neerja Chowdhury on November 25
Pune, 24th November 2024: The Pune International Centre (PIC), in collaboration with Symbiosis International (Deemed University), will host the 8th Dileep Padgaonkar Memorial Lecture on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Renowned journalist and political commentator Neerja Chowdhury will deliver a lecture on “Political Decision-Making at the Top – Growing Challenges.” The event will be chaired by Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, President of PIC, and Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, Founder and President of Symbiosis and Chancellor of Symbiosis International (Deemed University).
The lecture will commence at 11:00 AM at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan, located on Senapati Bapat Road, Pune.
Chowdhury is a highly accomplished journalist and political commentator with a career spanning over four decades. She has extensively covered Indian politics, including multiple Lok Sabha elections and prime ministerial tenures. She served as Political Editor for The Indian Express for 10 years and continues to contribute to the publication as a Contributing Editor. Ms. Chowdhury is also the author of the critically acclaimed book, How Prime Ministers Decide.
Remembering Dileep Padgaonkar
The late Dileep Padgaonkar was a towering figure in Indian journalism and a key architect of the Pune International Centre, where he headed the Programmes Committee. Over a distinguished career, he held roles such as Paris Correspondent, Editor (1986–1994), and Executive Managing Editor (1998) at The Times of India.
Padgaonkar also contributed significantly to public dialogue and international organizations. He was a Government of India interlocutor for Jammu & Kashmir in 2010, served on UNESCO and other prestigious bodies, and held the R. K. Laxman Chair at Symbiosis. His contributions to journalism were recognized in 2002 with the Legion d’Honneur, France’s highest civilian honor.
This lecture series commemorates Padgaonkar’s legacy and his commitment to fostering intellectual discourse on critical issues.
