Pune: PIFF 2022 To Have Theme Based On The Birth Centenary Year Celebrations Of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Bharat Ratna Satyajit Ray And Padma Shri Sahir Ludhianvi

Pune, February 14th 2022: The 20th Pune International Film Festival, which is being organized jointly by the Pune Film Foundation and the Government of Maharashtra between March 3rd and 10th will have a theme based on the birth centenary years of 3 great personalities including Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, the doyen of Indian Classical Music, Bharat Ratna Satyajit Ray, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and Padma Shri Sahir Ludhianvi, an acclaimed poet and lyricist. This was announced by Dr. Jabbar Patel during the Press Conference held in the city today.

Members of the Organizing Committee of the 20th Pune International Film Festival including Ravi Gupta, Satish Alekar, Abhijit Randive, Samar Nakhate  and Makrand Sathe.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Jabbar Patel said, “PIFF 2022 shall be organized in the hybrid format just like the last year. About 26 films can be seen through the online format of the festival. Whereas, film enthusiasts who wish to be a part of the festival happening in theatres will get an opportunity to watch 120 films from various countries.”

“Some special programs would be organized during the festival based on the theme featuring these stalwarts from the fields like Indian Classical Music, Films and Poetry. Details of these programs shall be announced soon”, Dr. Patel informed. Dr. Patel said, the 20th PIFF will be dedicated to late BharatRatna Lata Mangeshkar.

The online registration for participating in PIFF 2022 will begin from tomorrow (February 15th) through the official website www.piffindia.com. The spot registration will commence from February 17th at the venues where the festival will take place this year between 11:00am and 7:30pm. The venues where PIFF 2022 will take place include PVR and the Pavilion Mall on Senapati Bapat Road, Cinepolis at the Westend Mall, Aundh and the NFAI Auditorium on Law College Road. Thus, movies during the festival shall be showcased on 8 screens at 3 different venues. There is an addition of 1 screen as compared to the previous year.

It may be noted that a different registration process would be required to be done for the online format and for the festival that would be organized in theatres. Participation fee for online format of PIFF is Rs.600/- per registration and for the festival in theatres it is Rs.700/- per person. The rules and regulations given by the State Government and the local administration during the period when PIFF is being held shall be observed strictly and shall be mentioned in the festival website for the benefit of the delegates.

14 Films shortlisted for the world competition section at PIFF 2022 include Erasing Frank (Hungary), 107 Mothers (Slovakia, Czech Republic and Ukraine), Maixbel (Spain), The Exam (Germany, Iraq-Kurdistan and Qatar), Playground (Belgium), France (France), The Legionnaire (Italy and France), As Far as I Can Walk (Serbia, France, Luxembourg, Bulgaria and Lithuania), Mirrors in the dark (Czech Republic), Submission (Portugal and France), Jai Bhim (India), AMIRA (Egypt, Jordan, UAE and Saudi Arabia), Between two dawns (Turkey Romania France and Spain) and House Arrest (Russia).
