Pimpri-Chinchwad, 29th December 2023: As the city of Pimpri-Chinchwad grapples with a spike in COVID-19 instances, the local civic body has issued a pressing call to its residents, urging them to prioritize wearing masks in densely populated areas. Despite the absence of the JN.1 variant within the city’s confines, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner, Shekhar Singh, emphasized the importance of preventive measures in public spaces.

Singh, in a statement to The Indian Express, reassured citizens regarding the new variant’s severity, stating, “There is no cause for alarm, but it is crucial for us to remain vigilant and cautious.” Specifically addressing vulnerable groups, such as seniors and individuals dealing with health conditions like diabetes or hypertension, Singh advocated for the proactive usage of masks as an added layer of protection.

Asserting the city’s healthcare readiness, Singh highlighted the preparedness of local hospitals to swiftly cater to COVID patients. “Our medical facilities are primed and equipped to accommodate patients promptly. Presently, there isn’t a noticeable trend of increased hospital admissions. All hospital beds are well-equipped with essential oxygen support,” Singh affirmed.

Dr. Laxman Gofane, the Medical Health Officer at PCMC, confirmed the presence of 18 active COVID cases within the city limits. Stressing on the mild nature of these cases, Dr. Gofane assured, “Among these cases, four individuals are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, while the rest are recuperating under home care.”
