Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Launches Measures Against HMPV, Urges Public to Stay Calm

Pimpri Chinchwad, 9th January 2025: Following the entry of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) into India, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Health Department has initiated precautionary measures to address the potential spread of the virus. All eight PCMC hospitals are equipped to handle HMPV cases, and a survey of patients with cold and cough symptoms in the city will soon begin.

The PCMC Health Department, adhering to state government guidelines, emphasizes that there is no need for panic and that all necessary precautions are in place. Residents have been urged not to create an atmosphere of fear but to stay informed and take preventive steps.

Precautionary Measures Recommended by PCMC

– Seek medical attention: Visit the nearest PCMC clinic or hospital if experiencing cold, cough, or fever symptoms.
– Practice hygiene: Cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief or tissue while coughing or sneezing.
– Wash hands frequently: Use soap and sanitiser to maintain hand hygiene.
– Avoid public places: Stay home if you have a fever, cough, or sneezing symptoms.
– Maintain hydration and nutrition: Drink ample water and consume a healthy diet.
– Ensure ventilation: Keep indoor spaces well-ventilated to reduce infection risks.
– Use clean handkerchiefs daily.

Avoid the Following:

– Shaking hands.
– Reusing tissue paper.
– Close contact with sick individuals.
– Touching eyes, nose, and mouth frequently.
– Spitting in public.
– Self-medicating without consulting a doctor.

Dr. Laxman Gophane, Medical Officer of the PCMC Health Department, stated that all eight hospitals are ready with arrangements for HMPV cases. If necessary, additional beds will be allocated, and one hospital may be dedicated exclusively to HMPV cases. The department will also maintain records of patients presenting with cold, cough, and fever symptoms to monitor and manage the situation effectively.

Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge has highlighted the importance of strict preventive measures in Pimpri-Chinchwad due to its status as an industrial hub with a significant influx of people. He has directed the administration to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring public safety.
