Pimpri Chinchwad, 8th November 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) organised a “Walkathon for Voting” today at the Indira Gandhi Garden (Durgadevi Tekdi) in Nigdi. This initiative, part of the state-level SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program, aimed to boost voter awareness ahead of the upcoming elections. Actress Shreya Bugde, known for her role in ‘Chala Hawa Yeu Dya,’ joined the event, engaging with attendees and encouraging citizens to exercise their voting rights.

During the event, Bugde underscored the importance of voting, saying, “Just as physical exercise is essential for our well-being, voting is crucial for the health of our democracy. It’s a constitutional right that enables citizens to shape the future of their families, communities, and nation. I urge everyone to vote on 20th November and fulfil this vital civic duty.”

PCMC officials, including Additional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Khorate and Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, participated in the walkathon alongside senior citizens, women, youth, veterans, and first-time voters. Throughout the event, participants engaged in discussions on the significance of voting, with many voicing their commitment to participate in the upcoming elections.

Attendees from various groups, such as open-gym goers and yoga enthusiasts, pledged to inspire others in their communities to vote. Former soldiers expressed strong support for voting, linking it to their ongoing commitment to serving the country.

In addition to the walkathon, PCMC organised cultural performances to further promote voter awareness, including patriotic songs by children, dance performances, and a street play emphasising the importance of voting. Singer Ganesh Londhe also performed, urging citizens to take part in the electoral process. The event concluded with attendees taking an oath to vote in the upcoming election.

Additional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Khorate highlighted that PCMC’s SVEEP initiative aims to increase voter turnout in Pimpri, Bhosari, and Chinchwad constituencies. The campaign will include outreach efforts with women’s self-help groups, senior citizens’ organisations, and PCMC’s social development department to engage voters at the grassroots level.
