Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police and PCMC Officials Jointly Inspect Ashadhi Wari Palkhi Route

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 27th May 2025: Final preparations for the upcoming Ashadhi Wari Palkhi pilgrimage procession are underway, with top officials from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation jointly inspecting the palkhi route today, Tuesday. The inspection was led by Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey and PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, aiming to ensure seamless event management, crowd safety, and essential services for the anticipated large gatherings.

The city is set to welcome the palkhi of Sant Tukaram Maharaj on 19th June, with the procession scheduled to halt at Akurdi. Additionally, the palkhi of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj will enter Pimpri Chinchwad on 20th June, proceeding toward Pune the same day. Both events require meticulous planning for welcoming the palanquins and managing the influx of devotees. To address these needs, police and municipal authorities are working in close coordination, conducting joint inspections and detailed planning for crowd control, sanitation, water supply, and emergency response.

The inspection team included key officials such as City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Assistant City Engineer Bapu Gaikwad, Devanna Gattuwar, Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, Chief Disaster Management Officer Om Prakash Bahiwal, and others from the PCMC. It also included Additional Commissioner of Police Sarang Avhad, Deputy Commissioners of Police Dr. Shivaji Pawar and Bapu Bangar.

During the inspection, Commissioner Singh directed all departments to ensure no shortcomings in the essential services provided by the municipal corporation for the Ashadhi Wari Palkhi event. He emphasized the need for coordinated planning to guarantee all facilities for pilgrims, including proper arrangements at halting points, prompt filling of potholes, and ensuring rainwater does not accumulate on the palkhi route. The review also focused on the range of amenities to be made available to devotees along the procession path, reinforcing the city’s commitment to efficient pilgrimage event management and crowd safety.
