Pimpri-Chinchwad, 20th December 2022: Newly appointed Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey reprimanded the officers stating that the interference of police officers in the land matters is increasing day by day.

Choubey has recently taken charge as the Police Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad. He held a meeting with all senior police inspectors, assistant commissioners (ACPs), and deputy commissioners (DCPs) of the city on Monday (December 19).

Two years ago, senior police officials took an undue interest in a land case on Telco Road. As a result, a shocking case of taking the signatures of the accused under police lockup on purchase orders took place in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

After being cheated of crores in this case, the concerned elderly man knocked on the doors of the state government. The then-state government took serious note of the matter and ordered the appointment of an inquiry committee.

A few days after the inquiry was started, the then Commissioner of Police was transferred. However, the report of the inquiry committee was presented to the concerned government by Police Commissioner Ankush Shinde.

The investigation committee has accused the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner, two senior inspectors, four employees, three former corporators, and some private persons of wrongdoing in these land matters.

Due to this case, a review of the land cases in Pimpri-Chinchwad in the last two years in which the police intervened has been taken up at the state level. The high officials of the state have taken serious notice of this and expressed their displeasure.

The first meeting held by Police Commissioner Choubey after taking charge from outgoing Police Commissioner Ankush Shinde was held yesterday. In this very first meeting, the newly appointed Commissioner ordered all the officers in very clear words.

“There is a crowd of citizens outside the commissioner’s hall, which means that either the citizens are not listened to at the police station level or they want to meet the commissioner directly instead of going to the police station. Both these reasons should be considered,” Choubey said.

“A case should be registered immediately as per the law after hearing the citizen in need. Procedures may vary, but our procedure should not have an adverse effect on the citizens. As a result, the citizens will come forward to take help of the law,” Choubey added further.
