Pimpri Chinchwad, 7th October 2024: After the seizure of Rs 36 lakh in unaccounted cash yesterday in Chakan, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police discovered an additional Rs 35 lakh in Chinchwad earlier today. Since carrying more than Rs 50,000 in cash is prohibited during the Model Code of Conduct period for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Elections, the Detection Branch (DB) of Chinchwad Police Station took action around 11 AM at Chaphekar Chowk.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime 1) Dr Vishal Hire said that five officers from the DB of Chinchwad Police Station were patrolling the area when they stopped a Mahindra Bolero at around 11 AM in Chaphekar Chowk. Upon investigation, officers found Rs 35,11,220 in unaccounted cash inside the vehicle. The four occupants—Balu Tapkir, Nitin Gaikwad, Neha Lohar, and Poonam Rathod—could not provide satisfactory explanations regarding the cash.

Senior police officials, the election returning officer, and the income tax department have been informed, and an investigation into the ownership of the cash is underway, said ACP Dr Hire.
