Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police Seize 8.12 Grams of Mephedrone, Arrest One in Hinjawadi

Hinjawadi, 7th November 2024: Pimpri Chinchwad Police seized 8.12 grams of Mephedrone in Hinjawadi, arresting one individual in connection with the incident. The accused, a Pune resident originally from Sangli District, was reportedly attempting to sell Mephedrone in the Bhujbal Chowk area when he was intercepted by the Anti-Narcotics Cell around 3 p.m. yesterday.

Police Constable Kapilesh Krushna Igawe from the Anti-Narcotics Cell reported the case to Hinjawadi Police Station. The arrested individual, identified as Ajay Krushnarao Karande (age 44, resident of Pimpri, originally from Kadegaon, Sangli), now faces charges under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act).

According to police reports, the accused had 8.12 grams of Mephedrone, valued at Rs 81,200, which he was allegedly trying to sell at a restaurant near Hinjawadi. Upon receiving information, the Anti-Narcotics Cell conducted a raid, seizing drugs, a Toyota Innova car, and a mobile phone, with total assets valued at Rs 15,96,200, and arrested Karande. During questioning, Karande claimed he purchased the drugs from an individual named Akshay, who resides in the Warje Malwadi area, though further details about this contact are still under investigation. Assistant Police Inspector Panchal from Hinjawadi Police Station is leading the ongoing investigation.
