Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police Issue Safety Guidelines as Diwali Holidays Approach

Chinchwad, 7th November 2023: As schools across the region have entered their Diwali vacation, residents in Pimpri-Chinchwad are gearing up for the upcoming Diwali holidays, which are expected to see a significant increase in burglaries and robberies. The annual trend of higher crime rates during this period has prompted the Pimpri Chinchwad police to urge the community to take extra precautions.
The Diwali festival will be celebrated continuously from Vasu Baras to Bhai Dooj, providing government, semi-government, and private employees with five to six days of consecutive holidays. Additionally, as students have completed their semester exams, many parents are planning to travel with their children to visit relatives and enjoy tourism during this extended break.
The city of Pimpri-Chinchwad, with its diverse population of government employees, private sector workers, labourers, shopkeepers, businessmen, and factory workers, experiences a significant influx of travellers during the Diwali season. Unfortunately, this also creates an opportunity for thieves to strike, making it essential for residents to secure their homes and belongings.
To help prevent thefts and robberies during this period, the police have issued a set of precautions:
1) Activate “Night Vision” cameras in apartment complexes.
2) Ensure adequate lighting outside homes during the night.
3) Employ a watchman if multiple families are leaving the premises.
4) Display the contact number of the nearest police station for the watchman.
5) Inspect the strength of the door hinges on the main entrance.
6) Install a wire lock even if a safety door has an iron grill
7) Inform neighbours about your absence when leaving.
8) Safeguard cash and jewellery with trusted relatives.
