Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Nab 5 Bookies for IPL Betting
Chinchwad, 13th April 2023: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Crime Branch Unit Two apprehended five bookies on Tuesday (11th) at 9:00 PM for betting on the Delhi-Mumbai IPL cricket match.
The police raided a flat in Metropolitan Society at Chinchwad-Link Road after receiving information about the illegal activity taking place over the phone. The arrested individuals have been identified as Govind Prabhudas Lalwani, Kanhaiyalal Sugunumal Harjani, Devanand Prataprai Darayani, Ramesh Dayaram Mirani, and Haresh Hanumant Thatai.
The accused were found to be betting on the Delhi vs Mumbai match that was being played on the same night. The police seized two computers, mobile phones, and other materials amounting to Rs 85,000 from the scene.
Police Naik Sagar Avasare filed a complaint at the Chinchwad Police Station. The accused have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Gambling Act. The police are conducting further investigations to uncover any other potential accomplices involved in this racket.
