Chikhali, 17th December 2023: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector Narendra Laxman Raje (54) for demanding a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh to release a seized vehicle involved in an accident. The action took place early in the morning at Chikhli Police Station, Pimpri-Chinchwad police.

The ACB team acted on a complaint filed by a young man whose car had met with an accident, resulting in a case being registered at Chikhli Police Station. ASI Raje allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh to release the seized vehicle. In a compromise, the young man agreed to pay Rs 1 lakh.

Having paid Rs 70,000 initially, the young man faced continued pressure from Raje to fulfill the remaining bribe amount. Frustrated by the persistent demands, the victim approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau and lodged a formal complaint.

After verifying the complaint, the ACB team orchestrated a trap at Chikhli Police Station around 5 am. During the operation, Raje was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the youth.

The arrest was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve. The operation was led by police inspector Prasad Lotane, with the assistance of police constables Bhushan Thakur, Suradkar, and Chavan.
