Pune: Plan 10-year Traffic Roadmap; Focus on 90 Key Junctions, says divisional commissioner
Pune, 27th March 2026: Divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar has directed civic and enforcement agencies to prepare a comprehensive traffic management plan for 10 years for the city.
Chairing a review meeting on the Pune city traffic management plan at the divisional commissioner’s office on Friday, Pulkundwar stressed the need for inter-departmental coordination to fast-track priority projects aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility.
Pulkundwar said all departments must plan in detail for the next decade, focusing on traffic regulation and long-term infrastructure needs. He asked the Pune Municipal Corporation to prepare a priority list of works such as removal of bottlenecks, completion of missing links on arterial roads, road widening, and corridor-level improvements including footpaths and related infrastructure.
During the meeting, officials reviewed a range of measures for 90 major junctions across the city, including road widening, allocation of designated spaces for hawkers in public utility areas, installation of streetlights, provision of parking for unclaimed or seized vehicles, adoption of technology-driven traffic management systems, clearance of pending e-challans, appointment of traffic consultants and augmentation of traffic police manpower.
Hardikar suggested demarcating zones for street vendors, appointing agencies based on operational jurisdictions and preparing a structured action plan for implementation.
Senior officials from multiple agencies attended the meeting, including Maha Metro managing director Shravan Hardikar, joint commissioner of police Ranjankumar Sharma, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari, Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, National Highways Authority of India project director Sanjay Kadam and additional commissioner of police Manoj Patil.
