Nashik, 27th March 2026: The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) is undertaking a water treatment and rejuvenation project at Kushavart Kund in Trimbakeshwar ahead of Simhastha Kumbh 2027. The project, funded through CSR, aims to improve and maintain bathing-quality water at the sacred tank during the Mela period.

Kushavart Kund, located in the heart of Trimbakeshwar town, is one of the primary bathing sites for pilgrims visiting the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga. The current water recycling cycle at the Kund stands at 9 hours. The proposed treatment system will bring this down to under 3 hours. The project also includes measures to prevent direct immersion of Nirmalya into the Kund and to establish a dedicated operations and maintenance system. Work on the project will be completed by August 2026.

“Kushavart Kund holds deep spiritual significance for every pilgrim who visits Trimbakeshwar. The Hon’ble Chief Minister has been clear that water at our sacred sites must not only be clean — it must look clean. Pilgrims should be able to see the purity of the water they are bathing in. This project is our commitment to meeting that standard at Kushavart Kund during Simhastha 2027,” said Shekhar Singh, Commissioner, NTKMA.

Alongside the water treatment project, the State Archaeology Department is undertaking conservation of the Kushavart precinct in three phases, covering restoration of temples and platforms around the Kund, the Ganga-Godavari Temple courtyard, Kund steps, changing rooms, and lighting of the complex.

Kushavart Kund is part of a wider effort by NTKMA to restore nine sacred sites across Trimbakeshwar before 2027, including Indra Kund, Bilva Tirth, Prayag Tirth, Mukundeshwar Tirth, Sangam Tirth, Gautameshwar Temple, and Gautameshwar Lake.
