Pune, 18th August 2022: As the number of electric buses in the fleet of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is increasing, planning has started to increase the number of e-depots.

Accordingly, the work has started at Charholi and the largest depot at Nigdi is going to be developed by PMPML.

Electric buses have been included in the fleet of PMPML for eco-friendly and efficient transportation. Five hundred buses are planned to be procured from the central government’s FAME scheme.

In the first phase, three hundred buses have been received by PMPML. PMPML is currently providing air-conditioned service through 308 e-buses on various routes. Depots for electrified buses have been opened at Bhekrainagar, Bhakti-Shakti, Baner, Wagholi and Pune railway stations.

Among them, the Pune railway station depot will be inaugurated in the next few days and new depots are being developed at Charholi. It is proposed to release 70 trains from this depot and the largest depot is also going to be developed at Nigdi.

At present, these depots are getting an insufficient power supply for electric buses. Therefore, Baner, Wagholi and Pune railway stations’ e-depots has presently less charging points to charge the e-buses.
