Pune: Players of Gentlemen’s Game Turn Ungentle as They Attack Family for Refusing to Play Cricket

Pune, 27th December 2024: Although cricket is often regarded as a gentleman’s game, things can get heated at times. However, in an unusual incident, a person beat four members of the same family with a bat because they refused to allow him and his team to play cricket. The shocking part is that the attacker is related to the victim’s family. This incident occurred on 24th December in Bhamboli village, Khed Taluka, Pune.
A 35-year-old woman has filed a complaint at the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. A case has been registered against Eknath Vasant Mengale, Manohar Baban Mengale, and Baban Appa Mengale, all residents of Bhamboli. The charges include voluntarily causing hurt and intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, among others.
According to police reports, the accused were playing cricket near the complainant’s home. The complainant, who was laying dry dung fuel on the shared ground, was unintentionally hit by the ball when it was struck hard towards her. The complainant and her father-in-law told the group, “You will hit us; don’t play here, don’t hit the ball here.” This angered one of the men in the group, who happened to be the complainant’s distant brother-in-law.
The accused argued, “You never let us play; today, I will burn this dung fuel.” He then abused and beat the complainant and her father-in-law. The accused went on to beat the complainant’s husband and mother-in-law when they tried to intervene. Assistant Police Sub-Inspector More from the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station is investigating the matter further.
