Pune: PMC again changes timings of shops, check days to know type of shops allowed to open

Pune, May 6, 2020: Against the backdrop of coronavirus outbreak, Pune Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad has once again issued a new order regarding timings for the shops. According to the new order, shops selling essential items in the containment zones of ​​Pune city will be allowed to operate from 10 am to 2 pm. No other shops are allowed in these areas.

In the rest of the area, essential and non-essential standalone (single) shops are allowed to be open from 7 am to 7 pm in residential colonies and residential complexes. However, all malls and shopping complexes will remain closed. Also, non-essential shops will remain closed on Laxmi Road, Bajirao Road, Shivaji Road, Tilak Road, Appa Balwant Chowk, Kumthekar Road, MG Road, Kondhwa Road, NIBM Road.

The order to keep shops in Pune had earlier created confusion in the minds of many traders. Therefore, many questions were raised as to whether the shops should be continued or not, which shops are allowed to continue. Against that background, Gaikwad has issued the order today. Also, District Collector has clarified that no liquor shop can be opened within meters of the containment zone.

As per this new order, a list of containment zones in Pune city has been prepared by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Accordingly, 69 such areas have been identified (list below). Only essential commodities shops are allowed to operate in the containment zones from 10 am to 2 pm. Also, guidelines have been issued for wine shops to follow like giving a token to customers so that there is no crowding, maintain social distance among customers, use of mask, hand sanitizer etc. There are 702 wine shops in Pune district including 250 in Pune city and 213 in PCMC areas.

In the rest of the area, outside the containment zones, shops are allowed to operate from 7 am to 7 pm. However, a list of non-essential shops or business outlets has been released as only 5 such shops will be allowed to open per kilometre in the first phase now as Pune is in the red zone. Shopkeepers have to keep permission from ward office. Home delivery of essential commodities and medicine is allowed from
10 am to 10 pm.
