Pune, 9th June 2021: The stalled work of the proposed flyover to clear the traffic jam on Sinhagad road will get momentum. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee on Tuesday approved the provision of Rs 135 crore required for the construction of the flyover. Funds will also be made available as required.

Hence, the work of the flyover will get momentum and in the next few days, the tender process for the work will be implemented by the PMC. The pre-calculation sheet had been prepared twice earlier for the flyover work. It was also approved by the technical scrutiny committee. The tender process was then carried out. However, there was no response to the tender process due to corona infection.

It was decided to cancel the tender as the tender was offered at a higher rate after the extension. Now all previous tenders have been cancelled. Also, a new tender process will be implemented as per the current tariff of the Public Works Department (PWD). The work on the flyover will be speeded up as a project provision of Rs 135 crore will be made available.

Narveer Tanaji Malusare Road (Sinhagad Road) has been extensively urbanized in the last decade. The flyover was expected to be completed within three years. However, due to the delay in carrying out technical works in three years, the difficulties faced by the drivers have increased. Considering the urbanization and lack of alternative roads, a flyover has been proposed on this road.

The total length of the proposed flyover is 2.5 km. The flyover will be constructed in two phases and people travelling from Swargate to Vadgaon Dhayari will be able to go directly to the Funtime Multiplex without stopping. There will also be a separate lane for vehicles going from Vadgaon Dhayari to Swargate. According to the financial plan of the project department of the corporation, the cost of the flyover is expected to be Rs 135 crores.

Sinhagad Road is the only road from Swargate to Vithalwadi, Hingane, Manik Bagh, Suncity, Dhayari, Vadgaon and further to Sinhagad fort. Therefore, the road is crowded in the morning and evening. The sidewalks are also covered with encroachments. There is a constant demand for this road to be an alternative road.

Accordingly, the road from Vithalwadi to Warje was developed by the Municipal Corporation. However, due to the opposition of environmentalists, the road had to be uprooted as per the court order. Currently, a canal road has been developed from Vithalwadi to Funtime Multiplex.
