Pune, 6th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has cancelled the city’s alternate-day water cuts for the next five days after large numbers of Warkaris and Dindis participating in the annual Palkhi procession were asked to remain in Pune due to the flood situation in Alandi.

Announcing the decision, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said the temporary suspension of water rationing would remain in effect from July 7 to July 12 to ensure an uninterrupted water supply for the thousands of devotees staying across the city.

The decision comes after the Palkhi procession management appealed to Dindis and Warkaris to halt in Pune following flooding in Alandi. As many groups are expected to remain in the city for the next three to four days, the civic administration has made special arrangements to meet their essential needs.

Mayor Nagpure said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had urged Warkaris to stay in Pune in view of the prevailing flood situation in Alandi. Following this, an emergency meeting of the administration was convened, and officials were directed to implement immediate measures for the convenience of the devotees.

To accommodate the increased demand for water, PMC will provide a regular water supply across the city until July 12, suspending the ongoing alternate-day water cut schedule during this period.

The Mayor also announced that 101 PMC schools, which are being used to accommodate the Dindis, will remain closed for five days. The school holiday will also be effective from July 7 to July 12.

In addition, the civic body will install extra temporary toilets across the city to cater to the large number of Warkaris staying in Pune.

Mayor Nagpure also instructed the Pune Police Commissioner and traffic police officials to prepare a comprehensive traffic management plan for the next five days, considering the influx of Dindis and their vehicles.
