Pune Rains: PMC Activates 24×7 Disaster Response, Shifts 300 Residents to Safety
Pune, 6th July 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has activated its disaster management machinery round the clock in response to continuous rainfall across the city, with authorities closely monitoring weather conditions, water levels in dams, flooding, and citizen complaints.
According to the PMC, the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) and the Disaster Management Department are functioning 24×7 in coordination with all concerned departments to ensure public safety and respond swiftly to rain-related emergencies.
Heavy Rainfall Recorded Across Pune
Data from the ICCC weather stations showed that between 8:30 am and 5 pm on July 6, rainfall ranging from 12 mm to 99 mm was recorded across different parts of the city.
Among the areas receiving higher rainfall were:
* Aundh-Baner: 62.60 mm
* Nagar Road-Wadgaon Sheri: 45.60 mm
* Yerawada-Kalas-Dhanori: 45 mm
* Kothrud-Bavdhan: 41.80 mm
300 Residents Shifted to Relief Centres
As a precautionary measure due to flooding in low-lying areas, PMC shifted around 300 residents from 75 families to safe shelter centres.
The evacuated families are from the Yerawada, Nagar Road, Dhole Patil Road and Aundh ward office jurisdictions. Civic officials said all essential facilities have been provided at the relief centres.
No Water Release from Dams
The civic administration said it is continuously monitoring reservoirs supplying water to Pune. As of 5 pm on July 6, the storage levels were:
* Khadakwasla: 34.32%
* Panshet: 31.69%
* Varasgaon: 29.60%
* Temghar: 14.99%
* Pavana: 48.75%
* Mulshi: 39.37%
Officials clarified that no water was being released from any of these dams at the time of the update.
35 Rain-Related Complaints Received
PMC’s Disaster Management Department received 35 complaints during the day, including drainage blockages, waterlogging, fallen trees and branches, and wall collapse incidents.
Response teams from the respective ward offices and the Fire Brigade attended the complaints promptly, resolving most of them. Authorities also addressed waterlogging at 20 locations and responded to nine incidents involving fallen trees or branches.
Massive Workforce and Equipment Deployed
To tackle rain-related emergencies, PMC has mobilised a large workforce and machinery across the city.
The deployment includes:
* 4,000 sanitation workers
* 50 spraying staff
* 12 chief health inspectors
* 50 sanitation inspectors
* 70 sanitation supervisors
The civic body has also kept heavy equipment ready, including 20 JCB machines, 35 jetting machines, 10 dewatering (DP) machines, 131 compactors, 100 garbage collection vehicles, 294 small utility vehicles, 20 bin lifters, seven tippers, three tractors, nine water tankers, 77 diesel pumps and 104 spray pumps.
Additionally, PMC has established 49 relief centres across various ward offices to provide immediate assistance to residents if required.
24×7 Control Room Operational
The Disaster Management Control Room is functioning round the clock and is coordinating with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Water Resources Department, Traffic Police, Fire Brigade, Road Department, Drainage Department and all ward offices.
PMC officials, engineers and field staff have been deployed at vulnerable locations to continuously monitor the situation and respond to emergencies.
Advisory for Citizens
The civic body has urged residents not to believe rumours and to rely only on official updates issued by PMC, the IMD and the district administration.
Citizens have been advised to:
* Avoid travelling through rivers, streams, bridges, waterlogged roads and low-lying areas.
* Stay away from trees and other hazardous locations during heavy rain.
* Avoid venturing outdoors unless absolutely necessary.
* Contact the PMC Disaster Management Control Room immediately in case of any emergency.
