Pune: PMC Declares Legal Action Against Those Who Feed Pigeons Amid Increased Health Issues

Pune, 15th March 2023: The Pune Municipal Council (PMC) has begun doing its part to control pigeons whose excreta and feathers are dangerous to people’s health. It has instructed the health inspectors to take action against the city’s unchecked pigeon population growth.

Instances of hypersensitivity pneumonia caused by pigeon feathers and faeces are increasing in Pune and Mumbai, according to Thane signboards that spread on social media and terrified Pune residents. A warning that anyone caught feeding pigeons in public will face an Rs. 500 fine was also included in the TMC (Thane Municipal Corporation) notices.

People often maintain pigeons in slums, colonies, and on the terraces of public restrooms. Bungalow residents are also seen feeding these birds. The civic anti-encroachment agency will assist the health inspectors in getting rid of the pigeons. Action and penalty charges will be applied to those who feed the birds.
