Koregaon Park, 22nd May 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a sweeping crackdown on rooftop clubs and restaurants across the city in response to a recent fatal accident. This decisive action follows an incident on May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, where a Porsche crash claimed the lives of two IT engineers.

The PMC has initiated demolition activities at Orila Club, continuing actions that began in October 2023 when the club was first targeted. Orila Club has been closed for the past year. Rumours persist that government officials are among the stakeholders left after the initial incident. A former owner told Punekar News that the club remains closed.

Expanding their operations, PMC targeted two rooftop establishments in Kharadi yesterday – Hotel Tyktyk and Hotel Quarter. PMC official Ajit Surve confirmed the actions, stating that the municipal body is committed to ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

The crackdown isn’t limited to Kharadi. Massive enforcement activities are underway in Viman Nagar, Koregaon Park, and Kalyaninagar, reflecting the PMC’s urgent directive. Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale has instructed officials to immediately address any violations, particularly focusing on rooftop venues which have been identified as potential safety hazards.
