Pune: PMC Initiates Construction Of New Bridge To Connect Kalyani Nagar With Koregaon Park
Kalyani Nagar, 13th April 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has commenced the civil work for a new 10-meter-wide bridge across the Mula-Mutha River, running parallel to the existing Aga Khan bridge. This new infrastructure project aims to establish a vital connection between Koregaon Park (North Main Road) and Kalyani Nagar, with the anticipation of alleviating traffic congestion in the area.
The decision to construct the new bridge was based on a comprehensive traffic survey conducted by the PMC, which identified the need for additional infrastructure to facilitate smoother traffic flow. While the existing bridge boasts four lanes, the upcoming bridge will feature a minimum of two lanes, enhancing connectivity and easing vehicular movement.
An official from the PMC’s special project department confirmed the recent initiation of construction activities, projecting a timeline of 18 to 24 months for completion. Fortunately, the project does not encounter any foreseeable hurdles, as no additional land acquisition is required. The PMC’s track record of successfully constructing supplementary bridges, such as those parallel to the Dengle Bridge and the old Aundh Bridge, demonstrates its capability to optimize traffic management effectively.
In addition to the bridge construction, the PMC plans to widen a section of North Main Road near the existing bridge and the Bhairoba Nala pumping station, further mitigating traffic congestion along the route. Commuters have long lamented the bottleneck situation during peak hours due to the narrow carriageway, making this expansion an essential step towards enhancing the overall transportation infrastructure in the area.
