Pune: PMC Installs Vending Machines Across The City

Pune, 8th June 2023;?:Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a commendable step towards combating plastic pollution by introducing eight cloth bag vending machines at various locations in Pune on World Environment Day. The initiative aims to promote the use of cloth bags and reduce reliance on plastic bags.

Ketaki Ghatge, the Nodal Officer of Swachh Sarvekshan at PMC, emphasized the purpose of these vending machines, stating that they aim to make a significant impact in reducing plastic pollution by encouraging the widespread adoption of durable cloth bags. Individuals can obtain these cloth bags from the vending machines by inserting a 10 rupee coin.

Aside from the environmental benefits, this initiative also seeks to empower women in need by creating employment opportunities in the production of these cloth bags.

After assessing the effectiveness of the current vending machines for a month, PMC plans to install more machines at various locations in Pune, reaffirming their commitment to reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.

Currently, PMC has placed six vending machines at the following locations:

Mahatma Phule Mandai
Hadapsar Mandai
Tulshi Baug
Sutar Hospital Kothrud
Market Yard (two machines)
The remaining two machines will be installed at Jilbya Maruti Ganapati/Laxmi Road on Ganesh Chaturthi and Sharada Ganapati Mandir (Phule Mandai Ganapati).
