Pune 31st August 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation is soon likely to introduce a mandatory No Objection Certificate (NOC) process for the Rooftop restaurants in the city to curb the misuse of property by the restaurant owners. This, according to officials, will help them curb the use of rooftops for illegal food joints in the city.

The officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation have already approached the Food and Drugs Administration and State Excise Department in this regard as these two agencies are involved in the process of giving permissions to food joints. The civic body expects to bring these restaurants under its ambit to check the rising illegal set ups in the city to take appropriate action in need to avoid any major incident.

The civic officials had earlier conducted a drive against the illegal rooftops in the city, and many illegal structures were demolished while notices were served to many of them. According to officials, a total of 18 restaurants demolished the illegal structures on their own while four of them stopped using the terrace for restaurants. Four more restaurants are still on the PMC’s radar while nine have approached court to prevent action.

The Municipal Corporation had conducted a demolition drive against the illegal rooftop restaurants in the city last year under which action was taken against 61 eateries by demolishing the illegal set ups on the rooftop. The PMC officials have also noticed that several rooftop restaurants have started operating despite facing action. The civic officials have said that FIRs will be registered against such restaurants and the officials will soon carry out a survey to find out such restaurants.
