Pune: PMC Launches Special Drive to Upgrade Footpaths Across City
Shivajinagar, 16th February 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a special footpath improvement drive aimed at providing pedestrians with safer, level, and obstruction-free walkways across the city.
The campaign was inaugurated on Monday with repair work on the footpath along Lakaki Road in Ward 12. Civic officials said the initiative focuses on removing obstacles such as electric poles, signboards, and DP boxes from pedestrian pathways and relocating them to the edges so that sidewalks remain clear and accessible.
According to the administration, the primary objective is to ensure safe and convenient passage for pedestrians by restoring damaged pavements and making them even and usable. As part of the first phase, priority has been given to stretches in Shivajinagar, including the Lakaki Road corridor and the route between Thorat Chowk and Vetalbaba Chowk. Together, these roads cover approximately 1,400 metres, and both sides of the existing footpaths will be repaired and upgraded to model standards.
Officials stated that if the pilot phase is implemented successfully, similar footpath improvement drives will be extended across the entire city of Pune.
The launch event was attended by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, MLA Siddharth Shirole, Leader of the House Ganesh Bidkar, and Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, among other officials.
