Pune: PMC Plans 1.5x–2x Ticket Hike at Katraj Zoo Citing Rising Maintenance Costs
Katraj, 14th November 2025: Ticket prices at the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj are set to rise sharply, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) proposing an increase of one-and-a-half to two times the current rates. The proposal has been placed before the Standing Committee, citing a significant jump in maintenance and operational expenses.
If approved, this will be the first revision in ticket prices since 2018.
According to officials, the zoo’s expenditure has steadily climbed in recent years due to a rise in the number of animals, new enclosures, and ongoing facility upgrades. Costs have increased for setting up exhibitions for newly introduced species, maintaining and repairing the museum, and constructing trenches and enclosures for upcoming animal arrivals. Daily expenses for animal feed, healthcare, and habitat upkeep have also expanded.
A few weeks ago, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram inspected the zoo and reviewed its functioning. During the visit, he reportedly noted the growing financial burden and suggested a revision in ticket pricing to sustain operations and improve visitor facilities. Acting on these directions, the civic administration has placed the proposal for approval.
The Standing Committee will take a final call on the revised ticket rates in an upcoming meeting.
