Pune: PMC Plans Land Acquisition, Slope Reduction to Fix Accident-Prone Bavdhan–Chandni Chowk Stretch
Bavdhan, 14th November 2025: In a move aimed at reducing accidents on the Chandni Chowk–Bavdhan stretch, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to work on lowering the steep gradient of the Bavdhan Khurd road while simultaneously acquiring adjoining land to widen the route. Officials said the measures are expected to significantly improve road safety and ease traffic flow in the accident-prone zone.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divte, Superintendent of Roads Engineer Abhijit Ambekar and Deputy Engineer Sunil Bhongale conducted an on-site inspection on Thursday. The team reviewed the steep slope at Survey No. 20 on Lane No. 1 in Bavdhan Khurd, a section identified as a high-risk spot for motorists.
During the inspection, Divte directed the road department to prioritise developing the road to its full sanctioned width and reduce the incline to safer levels. He also instructed officials to survey all connecting roads and fast-track the acquisition of pending land parcels to support the redesign.
According to PMC engineers, the steep descent and narrow portions have made this stretch particularly vulnerable to accidents, prompting repeated complaints from residents and commuters. The proposed land acquisition and gradient correction are expected to reduce the risk and improve connectivity.
Divte said that once the improvements are completed, the upgraded road will serve as a safer link connecting Bavdhan to the highway. A new link road created through this development will also help decongest Chandni Chowk and offer commuters a more reliable, safer route.
Residents have long demanded corrective measures in the area, and the administration believes the fresh push will finally lead to a permanent solution to the recurring accident concerns.
