Pune, 7th March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to impose time restrictions on construction activities across the city following growing complaints from residents about disturbances caused by late-night work.

According to the civic administration, construction work in Pune and surrounding areas may soon be permitted only between 8 am and 8 pm.

The proposal will be submitted to the municipal commissioner for approval, after which it is expected to be implemented.

City Engineer Aniruddha Pawaskar said the decision was taken after several complaints were received from citizens about construction activities continuing late into the night. At many locations across the city, work reportedly begins as early as 6 am and continues until late at night, causing inconvenience to nearby residents.

The civic body has already made it mandatory for developers to adopt measures to reduce rising air pollution linked to construction activities. PMC has also issued guidelines on precautions and regulations that must be followed at construction sites to control dust and pollution.

In addition, the civic administration has been taking strict action against illegal constructions in the city. Pawaskar said the administration is also working to recover demolition expenses from property owners after action is taken against unauthorised structures.

Residents have complained that construction work often continues until 10 pm or even midnight in several central areas and suburbs, leading to noise and disturbance. Local corporators Punit Joshi and Bapu Mankar had also raised the issue with the city engineer, demanding restrictions on late-night construction work.

In another measure to control pollution, PMC has made it mandatory to install sensors at construction sites where the project area exceeds 5,000 square metres.

Meanwhile, Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B. P. said a special mechanism will be created to recover demolition costs from property owners in cases where illegal constructions are demolished, as provisions for such recovery already exist under the law.
