Nana Peth, 22nd September 2025: In a major joint operation, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Police launched an anti-encroachment drive in Nana Peth on Monday, targeting unauthorized stalls and boards allegedly linked to the notorious Bandu Andekar gang. A heavy police presence was deployed during the action to maintain law and order.

According to investigators, the Andekar gang had been running illegal stalls at Sant Kabir Chowk, Fish Market, and adjoining areas, extorting lakhs of rupees from local traders. The gang also put up flex banners and iron boards glorifying the Andekar family, further intimidating shopkeepers and causing traffic congestion in the busy locality.

This is the first strict administrative step since 20 people, including Bandu Andekar, were arrested in the Ayush Komkar murder case. Officials also confirmed that unauthorized boards installed after the murder of former corporator Vanraj Andekar last year were removed during today’s operation.

While the Municipal Corporation’s anti-encroachment department has not issued an official statement, Bhavani Peth Assistant Commissioner Kisan Dagdakhair acknowledged that action was taken. However, he added that full details of the drive were still awaited.
