Pune: PMC Provides Compensation of Rs 25 Lakh Each for 11 Contract Staff Who Died On Duty During COVID Pandemic
Pune, 23rd March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday distributed financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh each to the families of 11 contractual employees who died after contracting Covid-19 while on duty during the pandemic.
The cheques were handed over by Mayor Manjula Nagpure at a function organised by the civic body.
Officials said the assistance has been provided under the PMC’s “Covid-19 Prevention and Treatment Safety Cover” scheme, which was introduced to support families of employees who lost their lives while serving during the pandemic. Earlier, under the same scheme, the civic body had provided Rs 50 lakh each to the families of 88 permanent employees who died due to Covid-19.

Chief Labour Officer Nitin Kanjale said the general body had approved financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh each for the kin of 11 contractual workers who succumbed to the infection while discharging their duties.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Nagpure expressed condolences to the families and paid tribute to the deceased employees, stating that civic staff worked tirelessly, risking their lives to ensure essential services during the crisis.
