Pune: PMC Reports Record Revenue Of Rs 8,272 Crore For 2024-25

Pune, 2nd April 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recorded a record-breaking revenue of ₹8,272 crore for the financial year 2024-25, marking an increase of ₹10 crore compared to the previous year. Despite delays in capital projects due to the Model Code of Conduct enforced during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, revenue collection has seen a steady rise. In the financial year 2023-24, the PMC had reported revenue of ₹8,262 crore.
A significant portion of the municipal revenue came from construction permits, contributing ₹2,601 crore. Property tax followed closely, generating ₹2,365 crore, while GST revenue share stood at ₹2,500 crore. Additionally, water charges accounted for ₹116 crore, stamp duty collections added ₹190 crore, and other sources, including government grants, contributed ₹500 crore.
With increased revenue, the corporation now has substantial funds available for urban infrastructure and development projects. However, many key capital works had been stalled due to election-related restrictions. With the elections now concluded, the pace of development projects is expected to accelerate in the coming year. The administration has also received a large volume of expenditure bills submitted by 31st March and it will take three to four more days to finalize the exact expenditure for the last fiscal year.
For 2024-25, the PMC had initially approved a budget of ₹11,601 crore. However, with actual revenue amounting to ₹8,272 crore, the municipal budget deficit has widened to ₹3,329 crore. Looking ahead, the PMC has proposed an ambitious budget of ₹12,618 crore for the financial year 2025-26. This growing gap between estimated expenditure and actual revenue has raised concerns about the rising fiscal deficit, as the municipal budget continues to expand while revenue growth remains moderate.
