Pune: 61-Year-Old Held for Repeated Sexual Assault on Two Minor Sisters in Wakad

Wakad, 28th July 2026: A 61-year-old man has been arrested for repeatedly sexually assaulting two minor sisters, aged 10 and 5, in the Wakad area of Pimpri-Chinchwad. The case came to light after the older girl complained of stomach pain, prompting her parents to question her.

The incidents allegedly took place between May and July 27 at a residence in Tathawade. According to police, the accused covered the 10-year-old’s mouth, forced her into his house and assaulted her. He is also accused of assaulting her younger sister in a similar manner.

The girls live with their parents and grandparents. The accused, a neighbour, stays with his wife and son. Police said the assaults occurred when both families were out for work. On one occasion, the 10-year-old stepped out to wash clothes; the accused checked that no one was around, restrained her and took her to his house. A neighbouring woman witnessed the act and informed the child’s mother.

Questioning of the victim revealed this was not the first incident. The accused allegedly assaulted the 10-year-old four times, beginning in May, and also assaulted the five-year-old.

Relatives and local residents gathered at Wakad police station on Monday night demanding strict action. Police promptly took the man into custody and registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (including 64(2), 65(2), 74, 76 and 351(3)) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Senior officers from Pimpri-Chinchwad police, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Pradeep Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Kurade, Wakad senior police inspector Vitthal Salunkhe and police sub-inspector Swati Ghuge, visited the spot and are overseeing the investigation. Further probe is under way.

Meanwhile, the incident has triggered anger among residents and protests are organised demanding swift and strict action against the accused.
