Pune: PMC Shortlists 10 Development Plan Roads for Fast-Track Work Next Year
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 11th December 2025: The PMC has decided to prioritise the construction of 10 DP roads to ease chronic traffic congestion across several parts of the city. Officials said that although many roads were proposed in the earlier Development Plan, several stretches remained incomplete due to inadequate funds, leading to persistent bottlenecks in the old city as well as merged village areas.
Following the merger of surrounding villages, PMC’s jurisdiction has expanded significantly, but road infrastructure in many parts continues to lag. The civic body has so far been developing DP roads based on available internal funds, which has limited the scale and pace of work.
Against this backdrop, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has directed the administration to fast-track 10 priority roads and ensure full development in the first phase. These include stretches in Katraj, Baner, Balewadi and Pashan. The civic chief has confirmed that a separate financial provision for the project will be included in next year’s municipal budget.
Explaining the decision, Commissioner Ram said, “The construction of roads proposed in the city’s Development Plan is carried out by the Municipal Corporation, but many projects remain incomplete due to lack of adequate funding. We have now identified 10 DP roads that will be fully developed, and special funds will be earmarked for them. Once completed, these roads are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion. Necessary instructions have already been issued to the Road Department.”
The administration is expected to finalise detailed project plans and initiate tendering in the coming months.
