Pashan, 10th April 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suspended four officials, including two engineers, after untreated sewage discharge led to severe pollution and fish deaths at Pashan Lake.

According to the PMC, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram visited the Pashan Lake area on Friday and found that the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in the jurisdiction was non-functional.

As a result, untreated sewage was directly released into the lake, causing foul odour and significant water contamination. The pollution led to the death of a large number of fish, which were found floating in the lake, raising serious environmental concerns.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the PMC has suspended Executive Engineer Ajaykumar Dattatray Waise and Junior Engineer Atul Kumar Pandurang Kadu from the Sewerage Maintenance and Repair Department with immediate effect. The action has been taken under Section 56(2)(f) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, pending a departmental inquiry.

Additionally, Health Inspector Chopde and Divisional Health Inspector Bhoir have also been suspended at the departmental level.

The civic administration has termed the incident as extremely serious and initiated disciplinary action against the responsible officials.

Deputy Commissioner Vijay Thorat confirmed the action in the official statement issued by the civic body.
