Pune: PMC Takes Action On Illegal Encroachments On Hills; Issue Revealed Due To Vigilance Of Citizens
Pune, 11th March 2023: Over the past few years, encroachment has been taking place on the hills of the city. In some places, they are being broken. At Jijainagar in Kothrud, sheds were set up illegally. Taking action on it, these sheds were removed on behalf of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). This encroachment was exposed due to the vigilance of the citizens.
There are many hills around the city. It has been a habitat for wildlife and birds for many years. Some rare trees grow there. But some miscreants are encroaching on these hills and destroying the habitats and trees there. Many groups are working against this issue on Vetal Hill. Also, hill lovers are coming forward for Mahatma hill and Mhatoba hill in Kothrud for the same.
Regarding this, one resident said, “We have planted trees on Mhatoba Hill for many years and have cultivated them. Some people are trying to live on these hills illegally. The hill in the Jijainagar area of Kothrud had been encroached on for some days. Patra sheds were set up there. Against this, we met Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar and gave the information in this regard. After that, taking notice of it, they immediately carried out a campaign to remove the sheds.”
A few days ago, Mahatma hill was also encroached upon. Many citizens had taken the vehicles up. Then after complaining about it, the encroachments were removed from there. Now grooves have been dug in places to prevent vehicles from coming to the hill so that the vehicles will not pass there.
