Pune, 25th January 2022: Under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, the Standing Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to recommend to the Central Government to provide free education up to class X.

According to Standing Committee Chairman Hemant Rasane, as per the RTE Act provision, 25 percent of seats in schools in the city are reserved for children of parents whose income is below the poverty line. These students are provided free education up to class VIII.

“However, many students from economically weaker societies cannot afford further education due to financial constraints. Therefore, changes in this law will be recommended to the Central Government”, Rasane said.
