Pune, 25th March 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched the Mula-Mutha river rejuvenation project, which will affect 7,539 trees. However, the PMC has pledged to plant 65,434 indigenous trees in exchange, which will be carefully nurtured for the next five years.

The project will involve removing and replanting some trees along the riverbank. The work has already begun, covering the stretch from Sangam bridge to Bund Garden and from Bund Garden to Mundhwa. Of the affected trees, 4,429 will be replanted, while 3,110 trees will be removed.

In exchange, 65,434 local trees will be planted, and an abundance of bushes will be grown on both sides of the river. The tree expert committee, established by the High Court, has inspected the affected trees for the project.

Citizens were granted a deadline to submit objections to the plan, from March 1st to 13th of this year. The hearing of these objections is currently underway. After the process, the proposal will be submitted to the Maharashtra Tree Authority through the Pune Tree Authority for approval, PMC has stated.
