Pune 18th Sept 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in a unique intiative has planned to start an emergency helpline to help stray animals in the city. The decision has been taken considering the number of complaints the civic body attends everyday regarding treatment for the injured animals.

According to officials, the municipal corporation attends an average of 15 to 20 complaints regarding injured and ailing animals and these complaints are referred to private hospitals run by Non Governmental Organisations (NGO) as the civic body does not have a dedicated hospital for the animals.

The municipal corporation will work with Canine Control and Care, Blue Cross Society and Universal Animal Welfare Society for the initiative and these NGOs will be paid remuneration for providing service. The initiative will be executed once the proposal for it receives an approval from the Municipal Commissioner, said officials. The civic body received daily complaints regarding ailing and injured stray animals including cats, dogs etc.
