Pune, 22nd November 2024: The Maharashtra government has ordered the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to immediately transfer all documents related to construction in the villages of Phursungi and Uruli Devachi, which have been removed from the PMC limits and made municipal councils. The Urban Development Department of the Maharashtra government issued this directive, raising questions about the future of the Town Planning (TP) schemes in these villages.

The Urban Development Department decided to exclude the villages of Uruli Devachi and Phursungi from the PMC. After this exclusion, construction permits for projects in these villages were held up with the PMC. Consequently, PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale sent a letter to the Urban Development Department, requesting clear instructions regarding the construction department’s responsibilities in these villages. In response, the Urban Development Department issued an order clarifying that the responsibility now lies with the respective municipal councils, meaning the PMC can no longer intervene in these matters.

Many construction permits in these villages are pending with the PMC. With their exclusion, the PMC’s authority as the planning body for these villages has come to an end. In light of this, Commissioner Bhosale had sought clarity from the state government, which has now issued these orders.

The PMC had planned to implement the TP scheme across 371 hectares in both villages, with the final design nearing completion. However, the sudden exclusion of these villages from the PMC has cast uncertainty on the future of the scheme, which is estimated to cost the PMC around Rs 700 crore. As a result, the fate of these TP schemes is now uncertain.
