Pune, November 14, 2020: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has color-coded 1300 of its buses, to make it easier for the commuters to identify routes buses.
Under this initiative, CARISMA (Colour Coding All Routes to Identify and Simplify Maps and App), 140 routes in the city have been coded using 15 different colors. “All four sides of the bus will be painted on the facade and in bold. So, it will help the passengers to know which route the bus is on, even from a distance”, said Rajendra Jagtap, Chairman and Managing Director, PMPML.
In the first phase, 15 colors have been fixed for 207 routes and a total of 1300 buses will be painted. This initiative was already started on Friday. Also, a ‘QR’ code, and a mobile app for route maps will be introduced.
How was this initiative started?
“Metro service has a specific color for a single route around the world. The same color is used everywhere. The buses on the public bus service in London are also given special colors. With that in mind, the ‘CARISMA’ initiative for PMPML has been planned”, said Jagtap.
Recently, 53 buses on nine routes of ‘Atal’ service have been given orange color and ‘Abhi’ bus of airport service has been given pink color. This service has been started on a 90-day trial basis.
Jagtap also said that necessary changes will be made after getting the feedback of the passengers.
Information via QR code
Information on routes and their colors will be made available to passengers on mobile through QR codes. The QR code will provide information on route number and designated color as well as the bus starting point, last stop, and all bus stops on the route. This code will be made available inside the bus, on the outside, at bus stops, and bus depot locations. After scanning the QR code of the bus, you will get the route information.
Buses will be painted in red, black, blue, purple, green, pigeon, pink, parrot, brown, azure, yellow, algae, gray, khaki, orange, and magenta color.
“This is the first time in the country that an organization in the public passenger transport system has fixed a route-wise ‘color code’ for vehicles. Color codes and QR codes will be useful for the convenience of the passengers”, added Jagtap.
