Pune, 21st December 2022: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has decided to take strong measures in response to an accident involving one of its buses and a driver who was intoxicated while operating the vehicle.

All drivers must submit to an alcohol test at each depot in the city before reporting for duty, according to Om Prakash Bakoria, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the transport organisation.

According to PMPML officials, the bus accident on Sunday near the Bopdev ghat region was caused by the driver’s intoxication. Managers of PMPML depots have now been instructed to administer the breathalyser test. On Tuesday, the routine began at seven bus depots. Starting on Wednesday, the remaining eight depots will conduct it.

According to Bakoria, drivers of PMPML and contractor buses must take the test. In making this decision, the passengers’ safety was taken into account.
