Pune, 13th November 2022: While the city is running low on electric buses, approximately 60 of them are idling due to a lack of proper infrastructure. Because they cannot be charged, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has parked them at its depot.

According to a PMPML official, the buses have been idle for nearly four months due to a lack of electricity. At Wagholi, the PMPML has constructed a charging station for approximately 105 electric buses. However, the power supplied to it is only sufficient for 54 buses.

Although the official stated that power will be available for all charging points by next month, the issue raises serious concerns about the civic body’s policy regarding the operation of electric buses and the availability of ready infrastructure.

According to the official, approximately 190 more electric buses will be added to the fleet once the infrastructure is fully operational.
