Pune, 11th August 2025: In a move aimed at improving operational efficiency and expanding services, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will set up five new bus depots across the region. The upcoming facilities will be located at Ravet, Akurdi, Moshi, Chakan, and Ranjangaon, increasing the total number of depots from 17 to 22.

The addition of these depots is expected to support traffic for about 750 more buses, directly benefiting an estimated six to seven lakh passengers. Currently, PMPML operates 1,760 buses that cater to nearly 12 lakh passengers daily over 385 routes covering 7,256 sq km.

According to PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore, three of the new depots—Ravet, Akurdi, and Moshi—will be built on land provided by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which recently handed over around 5.5 acres for the project. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will construct these depots within a year.

For Chakan and Ranjangaon, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will provide the land, while PMRDA will fund the construction. The new depots will be equipped to handle both CNG and electric buses.

Officials said the expansion will help reduce the load on existing facilities in Bhosari and Nigdi, cut down on “dead kilometers” (distance buses travel without passengers), and enable PMPML to provide faster, more reliable services in both Pimpri-Chinchwad and PMRDA areas.
