Pune, 11th August 2025: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) achieved a historic milestone on Saturday (August 9), earning ₹2.61 crore in a single day — the highest ever in its history. The record-breaking revenue came on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, with an impressive surge in passenger numbers and additional bus services deployed to meet the festive rush.

Compared to last year’s earnings on the same occasion, the revenue saw an increase of ₹72.08 lakh. Officials attributed the boost not only to higher ridership but also to the ticket price hike implemented from June 1.

First Time Crossing ₹2.5 Crore Mark
This is the first time in PMPML’s history that its daily income has crossed the ₹2.5 crore threshold. On an average day, the undertaking earns around ₹2.34 crore. The festival rush, coupled with increased fares, pushed Saturday’s earnings to new heights.

On the day, PMPML operated 1,994 buses across the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) area, covering Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. This included CNG buses from contractors, enabling the fleet to handle the extra demand. Approximately 12 lakh passengers travelled by PMPML buses, significantly more than usual.

Breakup of Saturday’s Earnings
Ticket Sales: ₹2,16,99,869
Pass Sales: ₹15,82,240
Mobile App Ticket Sales: ₹27,99,418
Pune Darshan Service: ₹37,500
Total: ₹2,61,19,027

Officials Credit Public Trust and Staff Efforts
PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore said, “Keeping in mind the number of passengers, we had deployed additional buses for Raksha Bandhan this year as well. About 14 lakh passengers travelled, generating around ₹3.5 crore in revenue.”

Chief Transport Manager Satish Gavhane added, “The highest-ever revenue was possible because of the trust passengers place in PMPML and the dedication of our drivers, conductors, and staff.”

With the festival rush proving highly profitable, PMPML is likely to consider similar strategies during other major public holidays to maximise ridership and revenue.
