Pune 7th August 2023: After facing a lot of criticism over the bad condition of bus shelters across the city, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has now decided to build 1,000 new bus shelters for the commuters. These bus shelters will be built under the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) initiative and the tendering process for the same is likely to complete in the next three months.

According to reports, the PMPML has decided to appoint 10 different contracts to different advertisers to ensure that the work is completed early. Around Rs 4 lakh each will be required to build each bus shelter and the size of the shelter will be bigger than the current one.

The officials have been waiting for the advertisers as no taker was found despite floating tenders for around 8 times for the new bus shelters in the past. However, certain changes have now been made in the rules to ensure more investors. Besides, the officials are also contacting the private companies seeking their help to adopt some of these bus shelters under the CSR initiative. PMPML has appealed to the private institutes to come forward and take part in this initiative by adopting the bus shelters.
