Pune, 7th May 2025: With the onset of the monsoon approaching, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has directed all departments to expedite pre-monsoon preparedness and remain on high alert for potential emergencies such as floods and landslides.
A review meeting was held on Tuesday (6 May) at the PMRDA’s Akurdi office, where Dr. Mhase chaired discussions with heads of departments. He instructed officials to immediately launch a drain-cleaning campaign and carry out essential road repairs across the PMRDA region to prevent waterlogging and other rain-related disruptions.
In light of the growing concern over debris dumped in open spaces within PMRDA limits, Dr. Mhase warned that strict action would be taken against landowners who fail to remove illegally dumped debris. “Some areas have large amounts of construction and demolition waste obstructing natural water flow. The concerned landowners must clear these immediately, or they will face legal consequences,” he stated.
The Pune Metropolitan Disaster Response Force (PDRF) has also been instructed to stay in a state of readiness and coordinate with departments to handle any flood, landslide, or emergency situation that may arise during the monsoon season.
Dr. Mhase specifically ordered the cleaning and desilting of drains in the Urban Growth Center areas to ensure smooth water discharge during heavy rains.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla, SP and Vigilance Officer Amol Tambe, Director of Development Permission Sunil Marle, Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan, Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode, Joint Commissioners Himmat Kharade and Dr. Dipti Suryavanshi-Patil, Joint General Planner Shweta Patil, and other department heads and staff.
