Pune, 12th November 2023: In a significant move to boost tourism in Lonavala, the Pune Metropolitan Area Development Authority (PMRDA) is set to take charge of constructing a ‘Glass Skywalk’ at Tiger Point and Lions Point. The decision was made during a recent meeting in Mumbai, chaired by Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, focusing on tourism development in the Lonavala and Maval area.

Recognizing the natural beauty of the Lonavala region and the substantial influx of tourists, the initial plan proposed the Tourism Department to build a ‘glass skywalk.’ The envisioned project included adventure games and facilities for children, with a specific emphasis on being nature-friendly and environmentally conscious.

However, citing its inability to execute the project, the Tourism Department deferred, leading to instructions from Minister Ajit Pawar for PMRDA to take charge. Ramdas Jagtap, the public relations officer of PMRDA, confirmed that the authority will spearhead the project. The first step involves preparing a detailed project plan with state government funding.

The estimated cost for the ‘Glass Skywalk’ project is around Rs 100 Crores. The plan aims to prioritize the safety of tourists, emphasize environmental preservation, utilize stones instead of concrete for footpaths, incorporate designs that enhance the natural surroundings, and provide necessary facilities including parking.

The proposed ‘Glass Skywalk’ will cover an area of 4.84 hectares at Tiger Point and Lions Point, offering adventure sports such as zip-lining, a food park, an amphitheater, an open gym, and various games. The project aligns with the vision to transform these picturesque locations into vibrant tourist attractions, catering to both adventure enthusiasts and those seeking a tranquil natural experience.

The PMRDA is expected to submit a funding proposal to the government shortly, seeking approval for this ambitious tourism development project.
